Suffering from Knee Pain or Discomfort?

The body's largest joint is also viewed as the foundation for movement. Athletes and those who enjoy pushing their bodies to the limit tend to suffer from knee injuries. Poor biomechanics, physical impact, age, and overuse all make the knee prone to injuries.

Knee Anatomy

This complex cable pulley system that is your knee is made of two joints between the tibia (shin) and the femur (thigh bone). The patella (knee cap) serves as a border to the joints and acts as the pulley for the quad muscles of the thigh.

Types of Knee Injuries

  • Ligament Injuries | Sudden twisting movements or direct impact to the joint usually cause tears in the medial collateral ligament (MCL), anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), and posterior cruciate ligament (PCL).
  • Meniscus Injury | An injury to a section of the knee joint that can tear under extreme strain.
  • Kneecap Pain | Common kneecap problems include dislocation, tendinitis, and patella-femoral chondromalacia.
  • Tendon Injuries | The most common knee injuries, are caused by irritation and overuse.
  • Osteoarthritis | Osteoarthritis is the leading cause of chronic knee pain and is caused by the gradual deterioration of your knee cartilage.

The Process of Diagnosis and Treating Knee Injuries

Non-surgical solutions are always the first step in treating knee injuries or pain. These treatment options could include walking aids, medication, physical therapy, joint injections, PRP therapy, EPAT, and Stretching and Strengthening.
Should the non-surgical treatment be successful in relieving your knee pain or treating the injury, surgical options will be discussed.
Through a knee arthroscopy, it's possible to both diagnose and treat a knee injury - it's also the least invasive surgical option and patients prefer the tiny incisions and shorter recovery time to the lengthy process of open knee surgery.
